The Arts Council of Big Sky - Sixth Annual Auction for the Arts

The Arts Council of Big Sky is pleased to be hosting its sixth annual fund-raising art auction event on Thursday, March 22, at Moonlight Basin Lodge, from 6-10 p.m.

There will be a quick-finish session followed by a live auction with some of the most recognized artists in the West. In addition, a silent auction will feature local and regional artists. Delicious food and live music will complete the event, which is the only dedicated fundraising effort of the year for the Arts Council.

Confirmed artists so far include: Carol Hagan, Kevin Red Star, Carol Speilman, Michael Blessing, Meagan Blessing, John Potter, Tom English, Shirle Wempner, Greg Woodard, Susan Blackwood, Howard Friedland, Michael Ome Untiedt, Gary Lynn Roberts, Harry Koyama, Todd Connor, Joe Kronenberg, Pam Caughey, Barbara Schwarz Karst, Mike Barlow, Tom English,  Laurie Stevens and R. Tom Gilleon.

The opening-day program included presentations by artists Jeremy Lipking and Daniel W. Pinkham, and a luncheon with an awards presentation. The lively event continued into the evening with a cocktail reception and fine art sale, where patrons and artists alike joined in the festivities and over 200 fixed-price works were sold through a drawing.

The Montana Triennial was first organized and presented as a juried exhibition by the Missoula Art Museum in 2009 with subsequent exhibitions in 2012 and 2015. These exhibitions demonstrate the diverse and excellent array of artistic practice in the nation’s fourth largest state. The Yellowstone Art Museum, at the invitation of the Missoula Art Museum, will organize and present the fourth Triennial.

The Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale is a fine art sale with a Western theme, offering works relating to the land, people and wildlife of the American West. Artists offer a broad range of stylistic interpretations of the West, in oil painting, watercolor, pastel, sculpture, ceramic and mixed media. All works are original art. The Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale benefits the prestigious Buffalo Bill Center of the West.

Action Abstraction Redefined

Action Abstraction Redefined features paintings and works on paper from the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) permanent collection created in the 1960s and 1970s. The artists in this exhibition challenged stereotypical expectations of Indian art by experimenting with American modern art movements such as Abstract Expressionism, Color Field and Hard-edge Painting combined with art influences from their own cultural heritage. The exhibition culminates in the annual Art Auction which consists of a silent auction, a live auction, a “Quick Draw.” The evening features cocktails, a heavy hors d’oeuvres and dessert buffet, all within the beautiful background created by the museum’s spacious galleries. The Live Auction bidding begins at 7:30 p.m. and will include a raffle drawing.
