2018 Governor's Arts Awards Ceremony and Reception

Kevin Red Star and five other Montana artists will receive the 2018 Governor’s Arts Awards.  The Ceremony and Reception is at the Montana State Capitol in Helena, Montana 3:00pm – 6:00pm Friday, December 7, 2018.

Honoring Rick Bass, Monte Dolack, Jackie Parsons, Kevin Red Star, Annick Smith and Jaune Quick-to-see Smith.


2018 Angel Horses by Kevin Red Star and Carol Hagan

Future War Horse by Kevin Red Star

The 2018 Angel Horses painted colts by Kevin Red Star and Carol Hagan debuted at Art Walk Friday August 3rd at Gallery Interiors in Billings Montana. Kevin Red Star and Carol Hagan each donated their time and talent to paint a colt which will be auctioned at the annual Angel Horses Barn Dance Fundraiser on Saturday September 15, 2018 at White Aspen Ranch in Billings Montana. The barn dance begins at 6pm. Kevin Red Star’s colt is sponsored by Critters to Heaven.


Angel Horses is a unique human service organization located in Billings, Montana. Their mission is to provide positive physical and emotional stimulus to the Senior community – especially those afflicted with Alzheimer’s – through the use of rescued animals such as horses, donkeys, dogs and cats in a therapeutic environment. Angel Horses services also extend to at-risk youth, special needs children and individuals and families affected by cancer.

The Arts Council of Big Sky is pleased to be hosting its sixth annual fund-raising art auction event on Thursday, March 22, at Moonlight Basin Lodge, from 6-10 p.m.

There will be a quick-finish session followed by a live auction with some of the most recognized artists in the West. In addition, a silent auction will feature local and regional artists. Delicious food and live music will complete the event, which is the only dedicated fundraising effort of the year for the Arts Council.

The exhibition culminates in the annual Art Auction which consists of a silent auction, a live auction, a “Quick Draw.” The evening features cocktails, a heavy hors d’oeuvres and dessert buffet, all within the beautiful background created by the museum’s spacious galleries. The Live Auction bidding begins at 7:30 p.m. and will include a raffle drawing.

The Montana Triennial was first organized and presented as a juried exhibition by the Missoula Art Museum in 2009 with subsequent exhibitions in 2012 and 2015. These exhibitions demonstrate the diverse and excellent array of artistic practice in the nation’s fourth largest state. The Yellowstone Art Museum, at the invitation of the Missoula Art Museum, will organize and present the fourth Triennial.
 

Action Abstraction Redefined


Action Abstraction Redefined features paintings and works on paper from the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) permanent collection created in the 1960s and 1970s. The artists in this exhibition challenged stereotypical expectations of Indian art by experimenting with American modern art movements such as Abstract Expressionism, Color Field and Hard-edge Painting combined with art influences from their own cultural heritage.
